The Association between Type 2 diabetes, Body Mass Index and Lipid Profile: A cross-sectional study

Abstract

Diabetes is very severe metabolic disorder and can be measured by high blood glucose, in which higher cholesterol as well as some important lipid levels get increased in blood stream. Present study is designed to study the cholesterol and lipid effect on diabetic body and this study included 60 diabetic patients including 38 males and 22 females and 60 non-diabetic persons comprising 33 males and 27 females with age groups between 31-72 years and 17-60 years respectively. BMI was also calculated. Cholesterol, HDL, LDL, TL and triglyceride were calculated. From the results it is concluded that a significant association of diabetes mellitus with increased cholesterol levels, low density lipids, total lipid and total glyceride and reduced high density lipids. Risk of diabetes mellitus also increases with increasing age.
