Eclampsia is a condition in which convulsions (one or more) occur in a pregnant woman who is suffering from high blood pressure and these convulsions are often followed by coma and posing a threat to the health of mother which may affects the birth weight of fetus due to improper nourishment. It was hypothesized therefore, that eclampsia may affect fetus birth weight. In order to know the effect of eclampsia on fetus birth weight among eclamptic patients in Dera Ismail Khan, a survey was conducted from April, 2021 to August, 2021. Total samples of 104 individuals (54 eclamptic patients & 50 control) were collected from District Head Quarters (DHQ) Hospital Dera Ismail Khan. The eclampsia effect on fetus birth weight was analyzed by performing Chi-Square test on all parameters including patient’s age, placental size, proteinuria, onset time of eclamptic condition and nutrition etc. The placental size and onset time of eclamptic condition were measured through ultrasonography while proteinuria was measured by creatinine clearance test. By applying chi-square on each parameter, results indicated that eclampsia significantly reduces fetus birth weight, the significant reason of which was observed to be the mother’s unhealthy nutrition and high blood pressure. This study was novel because there is no literature reported on the effect of eclampsia on fetus birth weight therefore, this study will help researchers in finding effect of eclampsia on fetus.
