Abstract

Social media platforms have emerged as powerful tools for shaping public opinion, particularly among the youth. This study investigates the role of social media in influencing political attitudes among young people in Pakistan. With a focus on the increasing use of digital platforms for political discourse, this paper explores how social media affects the political engagement, awareness, and activism of Pakistani youth. By analysing survey data and case studies, the study examines the nature of political content consumed on social media, the level of political participation, and the resulting shifts in political ideologies. The findings suggest that social media plays a dual role: while it fosters political awareness and engagement, it also contributes to polarization and the spread of misinformation. This paper emphasizes the need for critical media literacy and responsible social media use among young individuals to mitigate the negative effects and enhance the positive influence of social media in the political sphere.
